Postpartum vacuity vexation

产后虚烦 〔產後虛煩〕 chǎn hòu xū fán

Heart vexation arising after childbirth as a result of qì-blood depletion and vacuity fire that harasses the upper body. Postpartum vacuity vexation is heat vexation with scantness of breath, fatigue, fullness and oppression in the chest and diaphragm, and in more severe cases, with insomnia.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and eliminate vexation using Lophatherum Decoction (淡竹叶汤 dàn zhú yè tāng). If there is pronounced physical agitation, prescribe Chinese Angelica Blood-Supplementing Decoction (当归补血汤 dāng guī bǔ xuè tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on HT, back transport points, and three yīn channels of the feet. Select BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), Alert Spirit Quartet (四神聪 sì shén cōng), HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí); needle with supplementation. If agitation is present, add LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ).
