Postpartum fearful throbbing

产后怔忡 〔產後怔忡〕chǎn hòu zhēng chōng

Fearful throbbing (severe heart palpitation) attributed to excessive blood loss in childbirth depriving the heart of nourishment.

Medicinal therapy: Harmonize the stomach and spleen; supplement qì and nourish the blood. Use formulas such as Ginseng Provisioning-Nourishing Decoction (人参养荣汤 rén shēn yǎng róng tāng) and variations. For incomplete elimination of static blood and inhibited flow of the lochia, Engendering Transformation Decoction (生化汤 shēng huà tāng) can be prescribed to eliminate stasis and engender the new.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on HT, PC, ST, SP, and back transport points. Select HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and HT-5 (Connecting Lǐ, 通里 tōng lǐ); needle with supplementation. For residual static blood, add LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi).
