Lochia

恶露 〔惡露〕è lù

Liquid discharge from the uterus after childbirth. If it continues in excess of twenty days, the condition is called persistent flow of lochia, which may be due to qì vacuity, blood heat, or blood stasis. If copious and pale in color, it is due to qì vacuity fall; if crimson, thick and copious, it is attributable to frenetic movement of hot blood; if purple in color and accompanied by sharp abdominal pain, it is due to blood stasis. Absence of normal postpartum discharge is called retention of lochia, which is due to blood stasis or qì-blood vacuity.

Etymology

Chinè, malign; 露 lù, dew.
