Nearsightedness

能近怯远 〔能近怯遠〕néng jìn qiè yuǎn

Also seeing dimly afar. Ability to see close but not distant objects clearly. Nearsightedness is attributed to superabundance of yīn and insufficiency of yáng, or to congenital causes.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement the liver and kidney using Long Vistas Pill (驻景丸 zhù jǐng wán) or Mind-Stabilizing Pill (定志丸 dìng zhì wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and local points. Select BL-1 (Bright Eyes, 睛明 jīng míng), BL-2 (Bamboo Gathering, 攒竹 zǎn zhú), ST-1 (Tear Container, 承泣 chéng qì), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), and GB-37 (Bright Light, 光明 guāng míng); needle with even supplementation and drainage. For young people, plum-blossom needle therapy can be effective. Base treatment mainly on back of the neck and around the eyes, selecting points such as BL-1 (Bright Eyes, 睛明 jīng míng), ST-1 (Tear Container, 承泣 chéng qì), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), and PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān). Tap each point 20-30 times with medium force in alternate-day sessions in two-week courses.
