Neck

颈项 〔頸項〕jǐng xiàng

The part of the body that joins the head to the trunk. Morbid changes in the neck include goiter, scrofula, phlegm nodes, and mouth-level nape flat-abscess. If these are soft to the touch, the pattern is generally one of binding depression of phlegm and qì. If the nodes are hard to the touch and static, the pattern is one of congealing stagnation of qì and blood. Conspicuous throbbing of the man’s prognosis rén yíng pulse (at the common carotid artery) accompanied by cough, panting, or water swelling, generally indicates heart-lung qì vacuity or heart-kidney yáng vacuity.
