Uncontrollable diarrhea due to large intestine vacuity, a severe form of large intestine vacuity cold, culminating in reduced uplift of yáng qì manifesting in persistent diarrhea with periodic fecal incontinence or prolapse of the rectum resulting from bowel movements. Generally, there is dull abdominal pain, general physical debilitation, and vacuity cold signs.

Medicinal therapy: Astringe the intestines and stem desertion. Commonly used medicinals include halloysite (Halloysitum Rubrum, 赤石脂 chì shí zhī), limonite (Limonitum, 禹余粮 yǔ yú liáng), pomegranate rind (Granati Pericarpium, 石榴皮 shí liú pí), chebule (Chebulae Fructus, 诃子 hē zǐ), nutmeg (Myristicae Semen, 肉豆蔻 ròu dòu kòu), and poppy husk (Papaveris Pericarpium, 罂粟壳 yīng sù ké). Formulas include Major Peach Blossom Decoction (大桃花汤 dà táo huā tāng) and True Man Viscus-Nourishing Decoction (真人养脏汤 zhēn rén yǎng zàng tāng). Although intestinal insecurity is treated mainly by astringing the intestines and checking diarrhea, qì-rectifying medicinals such as costusroot (Aucklandiae Radix, 木香 mù xiāng), bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus, 枳壳 zhǐ ké), and tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 陈皮 chén pí) are added to prevent stagnation. Upraising medicinals, qì-supplementing medicinals, and yáng-warming medicinals may also be employed.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, SP, ST, and CV. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with supplementation and moxa. For prolapse of rectum, add BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù), GV-1 (Long Strong, 长强 cháng qiáng), and BL-57 (Mountain Support, 承山 chéng shān).
