Enriching water to moisten wood

滋水涵木 〔滋水涵木〕zī shuǐ hán mù

A method of treatment used to nourish kidney yīn in order to moisten liver yīn. In the five phases, wood is engendered by water, hence the liver yīn can be supplemented by enriching kidney yīn. Enriching water to moisten wood is applied in the treatment of kidney yīn depletion with liver yīn vacuity, and superabundant liver fire characterized by dizziness, dry eyes, tinnitus, reddening of the cheeks, dry mouth, vexing heat in the five hearts, aching lumbus and limp knees, seminal emission, menstrual irregularities, red tongue with scant fur, and a fine stringlike rapid pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Agents that enrich water to moisten wood include rehmannia (Rehmanniae Radix, 地黄 dì huáng), cornus (Corni Fructus, 山茱萸 shān zhū yú), lycium berry (Lycii Fructus, 枸杞子 gǒu qǐ zǐ), scrophularia (Scrophulariae Radix, 玄参 xuán shēn), tortoise shell (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 龟版 guī bǎn), ligustrum (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, 女贞子 nǚ zhēn zǐ), and flowery knotweed (Polygoni Multiflori Radix, 何首乌 hé shǒu wū).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GB, LR, KI, and SP. Needle with drainage at GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and GB-43 (Pinched Ravine, 侠溪 xiá xī), and with supplementation at BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo).
