GB-35 Yáng Intersection

阳交 〔陽交〕 yáng jiāo

Alternate names: 别阳 bié yáng, Divergent Yang; 足空 zú kōng, Leg Hollow; 足髎 zú liáo, Leg Bone-Hole; 足窌 zú liáo, Leg Bone-Hole

Channel: GB, foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) gallbladder channel; shared point on the yáng linking (yáng wéi) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 7 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the posterior edge of the peroneus longus muscle in the groove between the peroneus and the soleus muscles.

Classical location: Seven cùn above the outer ankle, in the parting of the flesh among the three yáng channels. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The branches of the peroneal artery and vein. The lateral sural cutaneous nerve.

Action: Disinhibits the gallbladder and quiets the spirit; soothes the sinews, quickens the blood and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Distension and fullness in the chest and rib-side; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mania and withdrawal.

Classical indications: Heat effusion and aversion to cold; panting; throat impediment (hóu bì); cold reversal; fright mania; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi); swelling of the face.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒0.8 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 5‒7 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Cleft point (xī xué) of the yáng linking vessel (yáng wéi mài).
