The character (), spirit, thus brings to mind this point’s ability to treat spirit disorders as well as the heart’s function of storing the spirit. The pictograph mén, meaning gate, can be thought of as a reference to acupuncture points in general, or as a way of likening this point to a gateway for treatment of the spirit.
