Feeble-mindedness
呆病 〔呆病〕dāi bìng
Also dementia. A disease characterized by not talking the whole day, not eating, not drinking, sudden laughing or crying, rejection of fine food and acceptance of ordure, and a preference to dress in plant and tree leaves rather than in fine clothes. Some individuals spend the whole day alone, muttering unintelligibly; some sew up all the openings in their clothes; some hide other people’s possessions; some do not eat when given foodand may go without food for days without complaining of hunger. Feeble-mindedness results when the orifices of the heart are clouded by phlegm-damp arising internally, when depressed liver qì restrains the spleen and stomach, or when an irregular lifestyle causes damage to the spleen and stomach.
