Ten Cinders Powder (Pill)

Ingredients:
- Dà jì (大蓟 Cirsii Japonici Herba seu Radix, Japanese thistle) 10g
- Xiǎo jì (小蓟 Cirsii Herba, field thistle) 10g
- Hé yè (荷叶 Nelumbinis Folium, lotus leaf) 10g
- Cè bǎi yè (侧柏叶 Platycladi Cacumen, arborvitae leaf) 10g
- Máo gēn (茅根 Imperatae Rhizoma, imperata [rhizome]) 10g
- Qiàn cǎo gēn (茜草根 Rubiae Radix, madder [root]) 10g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 10g
- Shān zhī (山栀 Gardeniae Fructus, gardenia [fruit]) 10g
- Zōng lǘ pí (棕榈皮 Trachycarpi Petiolus, trachycarpus [petiole]) 10g
- Mǔ dān pí (牡丹皮 Moutan Cortex, moutan [bark]) 10g
Action: Cools the blood; promotes contraction and stanches bleeding.
Indication: Vomiting of blood, retching of blood, expectoration of blood, nosebleed or bleeding gums.

Method: All ingredients are subjected to nature-preservative burning and ground to a powder. This formula can also be prepared as a decoction.
Dosage: 3–9g 2–3 times a day.
Rationale: Xiǎo jì, nature-preservative burning,
which is said to enhance blood stanching.
Variations:
- Fulminant expectoration of copious bright red blood with
andred facial complexion constipation : Increase the Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) and Zhī zǐ (栀子 Gardeniae Fructus, gardenia [fruit]), and add Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]). Cough with phlegm flecked with blood invacuity heat : Omit Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) and Zhī zǐ (栀子 Gardeniae Fructus, gardenia [fruit]), and add Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]), ē jiāo (阿胶 Asini Corii Colla, ass hide glue), and Bǎi bù (百部 Stemonae Radix, stemona [root]).- Counterflow ascent of exuberant qì: Add Zhě shí (赭石 Haematitum , hematite), Lóng gǔ (龙骨 Mastodi Ossis Fossilia, dragon bone), and Mǔ lì (牡蛎 Ostreae Concha, oyster shell).
- Severe bleeding: Add Bái jí (白及 Bletillae Rhizoma, bletilla [root]), Sān qī (三七 Notoginseng Radix, notoginseng [root]), and Xiān hè cǎo (仙鹤草 Agrimoniae Herba, agrimony).
