Source: Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn 医宗金鉴‧外科心法要诀

Ingredients

• Qín pí (秦皮 Fraxini Cortex, ash [bark]) 3g
• Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) (with coating and tips removed) 3g
• Zào jiá (皂荚 Gleditsiae Fructus, gleditsia [fruit]) (burned preserving nature) 3g
• Cāng zhú (苍朮 Atractylodis Rhizoma, atractylodes [rhizome]) (soaked in rice water and stir-fried) 2.1g
• Fáng fēng (防风 Saposhnikoviae Radix, saposhnikovia) 2.1g
• Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]) (stir-fried with wine) 1.,5g
• Dāng guī wěi (当归尾 Angelicae Sinensis Radicis Extremitas, Chinese angelica [root] tail) (washed in wine) 0.9g
• Zé xiè (泽泻 Alismatis Rhizoma, alisma [tuber]) 0.9g
• Dà fù pí (大腹皮 Arecae Pericarpium, areca husk) 0.3g
• Shú dà huáng (熟大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma Conquiti, cooked rhubarb) 0.6g

Indications: Initial-stage hemorrhoids that are swollen and distended, scorching hot, and itchy; splitting of the anus and constipation.

Method: Decoct in water adding peach kernels, gleditsia thorn, and areca at the end. Take hot on an empty stomach, so as to avoid damaging the stomach.

Variations:

• Pus: Add Qīng pí (青皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, unripe tangerine peel) and Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot).
• Pronounced constipation: Double the Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb), and add Huǒ má rén (火麻仁 Cannabis Fructus, cannabis fruit) and Zhǐ shí (枳实 Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, unripe bitter orange).
• Pronounced swelling: Double the Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]), Zé xiè (泽泻 Alismatis Rhizoma, alisma [tuber]) and add Fáng jǐ (防己 Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, fangji [root]), Zhū líng (猪苓 Polyporus , polyporus), and Huáng qín (黄芩 Scutellariae Radix, scutellaria [root]).
• Pronounced pain: Add Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root]) and Yù lǐ rén (郁李仁 Pruni Semen, bush cherry kernel).
• Pronounced itching: Double the Fáng fēng (防风 Saposhnikoviae Radix, saposhnikovia), and add Huáng qí (黄芪 Astragali Radix, astragalus [root]), Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root]), Má huáng (麻黄 Ephedrae Herba, ephedra), and Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome]) (gǎo běn).
• Precipitation of blood: Double the Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]), and add Dì yú (地榆 Sanguisorbae Radix, sanguisorba [root]), Huái huā (槐花 Sophorae Flos, sophora flower), Jīng jiè suì (荆芥穗 Schizonepetae Flos, schizonepeta spike), and Bái zhǐ (白芷 Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian angelica).
• Frequent rough urination: Add Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria), Chē qián zǐ (车前子 Plantaginis Semen, plantago seed), Dēng xīn cǎo (灯心草 Junci Medulla, juncus [pith]), and Biǎn xù (萹蓄 Polygoni Avicularis Herba, knotgrass).
