Properties: Acrid, bitter, sweet; balanced.
Channel entry: Large intestine, spleen, and small intestine channels.
Indications:
- Moistens the intestines and frees the stool:
Intestinal dryness constipation. - Disinhibits water and disperses swelling: Water swelling with distension and fullness; leg qì (jiǎo qì) (beriberi); puffy swelling.
Dosage & Method: Oral: 6–12g in decoctions; also commonly made into pills.
Warnings: Use with care in pregnancy.
Quality: Undamaged plump pale yellow or white seeds with out husk and not exuding oil are the best.
Product Area: Mongolia, Hēilóngjiāng.
