Ingredients
- Shú dì huáng (熟地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, cooked rehmannia [root]) 20g
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) 15g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 10g
- Gǒu qǐ zǐ (枸杞子 Lycii Fructus, lycium [berry]) 10g
- Dù zhòng (杜仲 Eucommiae Cortex, eucommia [bark]) 10g
- Xiān máo (仙茅 Curculiginis Rhizoma, curculigo [root]) 10g
- Bā jǐ tiān (巴戟天 Morindae Officinalis Radix, morinda [root]) 10g
- Shān zhū yú (山茱萸 Corni Fructus, cornus [fruit]) 10g
- Yín yáng huò (淫羊藿 Epimedii Herba, epimedium) 10g
- Jiǔ cài zǐ (韭菜子 Allii Tuberosi Semen, garlic chive seed) 10g
- Shé chuáng zǐ (蛇床子 Cnidii Fructus, cnidium seed) 10g
- Fù zǐ (附子 Aconiti Radix Lateralis Praeparata, aconite [accessory root]) (processed) 6g
- Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark) 6g
Actions: Supplements the kidney and invigorates yáng.
Indications: Impotence due to debilitation of life gate fire and essential qì vacuity cold with limp aching lumbus and legs, dizziness, tinnitus, profuse urination at night, cold limbs and aversion to cold, bland taste in the mouth, and thin sloppy stool. Tongue: Pale and enlarged with slimy white fur. Pulse: Sunken and slow.
Rationale: Bā jǐ tiān, Yín yáng huò, Shé chuáng zǐ, Jiǔ cài zǐ, Xiān máo, Fù zǐ, Ròu guì, Ròu cōng róngs and Dù zhòng supplement the kidney and invigorate yáng. Shú dì huáng, Dāng guī, Gǒu qǐ zǐ, and Shān zhū yú supplement kidney yīn and boost essence and marrow. Supplementing yīn as well as yáng to treat debilitation of the life gate fire is based on the principle of seeking yáng in yīn.
Shān zhū yú and Jiǔ cài zǐ have the additional ability to secure essence. A large amount of Bái zhú is used to fortify the spleen, so that later heaven
comes to the support of earlier heaven.
