Actions: Warms and supplements kidney; secures water.
Indications: Insufficiency of kidney qì causing profuse urination or dribbling urination
Rationale: Lù jiǎo is a drastic kidney-yáng--supplementing agent. It engenders essence and marrow, and strengthens the sinew and bone. It is effective for this even when used alone. Tù sī zǐ and Ròu cōng róngs both boost kidney essence and supplement kidney yáng. Fù zǐ warms and invigorates kidney yáng. These agents therefore treat the general debility, cold signs, and urinary signs. Wǔ wèi zǐ, Sāng piāo xiāo, Yì zhì rén, and calcined Mǔ lì secure urine, while Wū yào enhances the transformative action of bladder qì. Jī nèi jīn checks enuresis and eliminates food accumulation, so that it both addresses the urinary signs and helps to prevent the supplementing agents from clogging.
