Abdominal pain that arises when spleen-stomach yáng vacuity, damage from eating raw and cold foods, and contraction of cold evil cause an accumulation of congealing stagnant cold. It is characterized by continual pain that likes heat and refuses warmth. Bouts of pain are accompanied by diarrhea. The pulse is usually sunken and slow or sunken and tight.
Medicinal therapy: Warm and move spleen yáng; disperse cold and move qì. Use formulas such as Center-Ordering Decoction (治中汤zhì zhōng tāng) or Tsaoko Pill (豆蔻丸dòu kòu wán). Compare the milder cold qì abdominal pain.
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, SP, and LI. Select CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), CV-8 (Spirit Gate Tower, 神阙 shén què), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-15 (Great Horizontal, 大横 dà hèng), SP-4 (Yellow Emperor, 公孙 gōng sūn), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ); needle with drainage and add moxa. Moxibustion on ginger can be performed at CV-8 (Spirit Gate Tower, 神阙 shén què).
