Clearing heat, transforming phlegm, and opening the orifices

清热化痰开窍 〔清熱化痰開竅〕qīng rè huà tán kāi qiào

A method of treatment used to address phlegm heat congestion in children, causing heat effusion and clouded spirit, rough breathing, fright reversal, and convulsions of the limbs (an acute fright wind repletion pattern).

Medicinal therapy: Heat-clearing phlegm-transforming and orifice-opening formulas include Dragon-Embracing Pill (抱龙丸 bào lóng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Use the points given under clearing heat and transforming phlegm. In addition, drain GV-26 (Water Trough, 水沟 shuǐ gōu), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ), and GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), and prick the twelve well points or the ten diffusing points to bleed. For convulsions of the limbs, drain GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), GV-16 (Wind Mansion, 风府 fēng fǔ), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng).
