Actions: Clears heat and transforms phlegm; settles fright and opens the orifices.
Indications: Acute child fright wind due to exuberant internal phlegm-heat, manifesting in heat effusion, clouded spirit, rough breathing, convulsions, fright, and reversal. Tongue: Red with grimy, slimy, yellow fur.
Method: Grind to a powder and form into pills.
Rationale: Tiān zhú huáng clears heat and sweeps phlegm, and also calms fright. Dǎn xīng (Tiān nán xīng that has been processed with ox bile) transforms phlegm and extinguishes wind, as well as calming fright. These two agents together thus address the phlegm-heat and the fright wind. Xióng huáng dispels phlegm and resolves toxin. Shè xiāng opens the orifices and arouses the spirit. Zhū shā quiets the spirit and settles fright.
