Wind-induced deviation

风起㖞斜 〔風起喎斜〕fēng qǐ wāi xié [fēng qǐ kuāi xié]

Deviation of the cheeks and mouth, inability to close the eyes fully, in some cases, with tremor, dizziness, seeing one as two (double vision), red eyes, and tearing, and, in severe cases, outward turning of the lower lid, squint, and hemiplegia.

Medicinal therapy: Dispel wind and free the network vessels using either Wind-Expelling Powder (排风散 pái fēng sǎn) or Face-Righting Decoction (正容汤 zhèng róng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GB, TB, LI, and ST. Select GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), TB-17 (Wind Screen, 翳风 yì fēng), ST-4 (Earth Granary, 地仓 dì cāng), ST-6 (Cheek Carriage, 颊车 jiá chē), Pull Aright (牵正 qiān zhèng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), GB-14 (Yang White, 阳白 yáng bái), BL-2 (Bamboo Gathering, 攒竹 zǎn zhú), and ST-2 (Four Whites, 四白 sì bái) to disperse wind and free the network vessels. In the early stages, use the point-joining method or oblique insertion; in advanced stages, use shallow needling supplementation.

Point selection according to signs: For dizziness, add LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), GB-43 (Pinched Ravine, 侠溪 xiá xī), and KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī). For red eyes and tearing, add LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), BL-1 (Bright Eyes, 睛明 jīng míng), and Greater yáng (tài yáng) (太阳 tài yáng).
