True heart pain

真心痛 〔真心痛〕zhēn xīn tòng

A disease described in The Magic Pivot (灵枢 líng shū, jué bìng) in the following way; In true heart pain, the hands and feet turn blue-green up to the joints and heart pain is severe. If it occurs at dawn, death ensues in the evening; if it occurs in the evening, death ensues at dawn.

Biomedical correspondence: According to the foregoing description, true heart pain corresponds to cardiodynia due to acute myocardial infarction with circulatory failure.

Medicinal therapy: Return yáng and stem counterflow; open the orifices with aroma; quicken the blood and transform stasis. Traditional medication is Storax Pill (苏合香丸 sū hé xiāng wán) for emergency treatment and Ginseng and Aconite Decoction (参附汤 shēn fù tāng) plus aquilaria (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 沉香 chén xiāng) and notoginseng (Notoginseng Radix, 三七 sān qī). Compare heart pain.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, BL, and PC. Supplement CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), BL-14 (Reverting yīn (jué yīn) Transport, 厥阴俞 jué yīn shù), CV-14 (Great Tower Gate, 巨阙 jù què), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), HT-5 (Connecting Lǐ, 通里 tōng lǐ), PC-4 (Cleft Gate, 郄门 xī mén), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); use large amounts of moxa at CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), and BL-14 (Reverting yīn (jué yīn) Transport, 厥阴俞 jué yīn shù).
