Spleen vacuity enduring cough
脾虚久嗽 〔脾虛久嗽〕 pí xū jiǔ sòu
A long-standing cough due to spleen qì vacuity. In children, the spleen is often insufficient and is susceptible to milk feeding damage, which in turn causes movement and transformation failure and makes dampness transform into phlegm. Phlegm and dampness obstructing each other disturb lung qì diffusion, giving rise to cough. Spleen vacuity enduring cough is a persistent cough with copious phlegm, accompanied by poor food intake, abdominal distension, sloppy stool, yellow face, and emaciation.
Medicinal therapy: Fortify the spleen and disinhibit qì; relieve cough and transform phlegm. Use variations of
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on the back transport points, CV, LU, SP, and ST. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
