Source point

原穴 〔原穴〕yuán xué

From The Magic Pivot (灵枢 líng shū). Any of the points that lie on one of the twelve channels at which the source qì of the bowel or viscus related to that channel collects. The source points of the six yīn channels are the same as the stream points of the six yīn channelsand are located one point proximal to the stream points on the six yáng channels. Source points can be palpated to identify repletion or vacuity of source qì in the channel’s associated bowel or viscus (repletion being characterized by swelling or distension, and vacuity by a depression at the point). These points are primarily used for the treatment of diseases affecting the bowels and viscera. They can be drained or supplemented to treat vacuity or repletion in the channel or its associated organ.

Combinations: Source points can be combined with network points. See source and network point combination.
