TB-4 Yáng Pool

阳池 〔陽池〕 yáng chí

Alternate names: 别阳 bié yáng, Divergent Yang

Channel: TB, hand lesser yáng (shào yáng) triple burner channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the dorsal aspect of the wrist, in the depression between the tendons of the extensor digitorum (communis) and the extensor digiti minimi.

Classical location: In a depression on the back of the wrist; feel straight along from the base joint of the fingers to the center of the wrist. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: Inferiorly, the dorsal venous network of the wrist and the posterior carpal artery. The dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve and the terminal branch of the posterior antebrachial cutaneous nerve.

Action: Disperses wind and drains heat; frees the channels and network vessels.

Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; malarial disease; dispersion-thirst; wrist pain.

Classical indications: Dispersion-thirst and dry mouth; vexation and oppression; weak wrist; painful swelling of the eyes; tinnitus; throat impediment (hóu bì); absence of sweating in febrile disease; swelling of the neck.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Source point (yuán xué).
