TB-4 Yáng Pool

阳池 〔陽池〕yáng chí

Alternate names: 别阳 bié yáng, Divergent Yang

Channel: TB, Hand Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Triple Burner Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the dorsal aspect of the wrist, in the depression between the tendons of the extensor digitorum (communis) and the extensor digiti minimi.

Classic location: In a depression on the back of the wrist; feel straight along from the base joint of the fingers to the center of the wrist. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Inferiorly, the dorsal venous network of the wrist and the posterior carpal artery. The dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve and the terminal branch of the posterior antebrachial cutaneous nerve.

Action: Disperses wind and drains heat; frees the channels and network vessels.

Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; malarial disease; dispersion-thirst; wrist pain.

Classic indications: Dispersion-thirst and dry mouth; vexation and oppression; weak wrist; painful swelling of the eyes; tinnitus; throat impediment (hóu bì); absence of sweating in febrile disease; swelling of the neck.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Source point (yuán xué).
