BL-64 Capital Bone

京骨 〔京骨〕 jīng gǔ

Alternate names: 大骨 dà gǔ, Large Bone; 足太阳所过 zú tài yáng suǒ guò,

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the foot, inferior to the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone, at the border of the red and white flesh.

Classical location: On the outer side of the foot, below the large bone, in the depression at the border of the red and white flesh. From The Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸甲乙经 zhēn jiǔ jiǎ yǐ jīng)

Local anatomy: See BL-63.

Action: Frees the channels and quickens the network vessels; quiets the heart and spirit; disperses wind and clears heat.

Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; eye screens; epilepsy; lumbar pain.

Classical indications: Sniveling and nosebleed; eye screens; diarrhea; abdominal fullness; mania and withdrawal; heat effusion with aversion to cold; malarial disease; heart palpitation; splitting headache.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Source point (yuán xué).
