From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). Postpartum pericardiac pain or postpartum true heart pain. Postpartum heart pain occurs in patients with abiding cold when major postpartum vacuity causes the blood to congeal and surge into the network vessel of the heart or the heart channel. Damaging the network vessel of the heart, it is called postpartum pericardiac network [vessel] pain, which is characterized by oppression and pain in the chest and heart with the pain stretching into the back in severe cases. Damaging the heart channel, it is called postpartum true heart pain is attended by purple-black nails and cold extremities. If it occurs in the morning, the patient dies in the evening; if it occurs in the morning, the patient dies in the morning.
Medicinal therapy: Treat pericardiac network [vessel] pain by dispersing cold with formulas such as Great Rock Honey Decoction (大岩蜜汤dà yán mì tāng). Treat postpartum true heart pain with Great Rock Honey Decoction (大岩蜜汤dà yán mì tāng) combined with Sudden Smile Powder (失笑散shī xiào sǎn).
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, back transport points, PC, and HT. Main points: CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and CV-14 (Great Tower Gate, 巨阙 jù què); needle with drainage.
For pericardiac pain, add BL-14 (Reverting yīn (jué yīn) Transport, 厥阴俞 jué yīn shù), PC-4 (Cleft Gate, 郄门 xī mén), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ).
