Phlegm-fire tetany
痰火痉 〔痰火痙〕 tán huǒ jìng
痰火痓〔痰火痓〕tán huǒ cì
Tetany (jìng, clenched jaw, arched-back rigidity, convulsions) attributed to phlegm-fire congestion. Phlegm-fire tetany is characterized by pulling of the eyes and mouth, tremor, shaking, or convulsive spasm of the extremities, generalized heat, cough with copious phlegm, and a rapid surging pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and drain fire; sweep phlegm and resolve tetany. Use formulas such as
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, GV, PC, TB and LI. Select ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), GV-26 (Water Trough, 水沟 shuǐ gōu), GV-8 (Sinew Contraction, 筋缩 jīn suō), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí); needle with drainage.
