Phlegm reversal headache

痰厥头痛 〔痰厥頭痛〕tán jué tóu tòng

Headache attributed to phlegm turbidity ascending counterflow. Phlegm reversal headache is a splitting headache associated with dizziness, generalized heaviness, disquieted heart spirit, topsy-turvy speech, oppression in the chest, nausea, pronounced heart vexation and hasty rapid breathing, upflow of phlegm and drool or clear watery fluid, reversal cold of the limbs, and a slippery stringlike pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Transform phlegm and harmonize the center. Use formulas such as Pinellia, White Atractylodes, and Gastrodia Decoction (半夏白朮天麻汤 bàn xià bái zhú tiān má tāng) or Chuanxiong and Asarum Phlegm-Abducting Decoction (芎辛导痰汤 xiōng xīn dǎo tán tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV and ST. Select ST-8 (Head Corner, 头维 tóu wéi), Greater yáng (tài yáng) (太阳 tài yáng), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ), and SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán); needle with drainage.
