Outthrusting papules
透疹 〔透疹〕tòu zhěn
Also outthrusting the exterior. A method of treatment used to promote the eruption of macules in the initial stage of measles.
Medicinal therapy: Outthrusting macules makes use of cool acrid exterior-resolving medicinals such as mint (Menthae Herba, 薄荷 bò hé), schizonepeta (Schizonepetae Herba, 荆芥 jīng jiè), forsythia (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘 lián qiáo), coriander (Coriandri Herba cum Radice, 胡荽 hú suī), scallion white (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, 葱白 cōng bái), cicada molting (Cicadae Periostracum, 蝉蜕 chán tuì), arctium (Arctii Fructus, 牛蒡子 niú bàng zǐ), tamarisk (Tamaricis Cacumen, 柽柳 chēng liǔ), pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn), and platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗 jié gěng). Examples of macule-outthrusting formulas include Toxin-Diffusing Exterior-Effusing Decoction (宣毒发表汤 xuān dú fā biǎo tāng), Cimicifuga and Pueraria Decoction (升麻葛根汤 shēng má gé gēn tāng), and Lophatherum, Tamarisk, and Arctium Decoction (竹叶柳蒡汤 zhú yè liǔ bàng tāng).
