Lung taxation

肺劳 〔肺勞〕fèi láo

A vacuity taxation (severe enduring vacuity) pattern attributable to lung vacuity and characterized by dry sore throat, hoarse voice, loss of sense of smell, red facial complexion, oppression in the chest and shortness of breath, cough and ejection of blood, reduced food intake, emaciation and lack of strength, and heat effusion.

Medicinal therapy: Boost qì and supplement the lung. Use Ginseng Root-Securing Pill (人参固本丸 rén shēn gù běn wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LU and KI. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation.

Point selection according to signs: For sore dry throat, add TB-2 (Humor Gate, 液门 yè mén) and prick LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) to bleed. For hoarse voice, add LI-18 (Protuberance Assistant, 扶突 fú tú) and PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ). For nose failing to smell fragrance (loss of smell), add LI-20 (Welcome Fragrance, 迎香 yíng xiāng) and GV-23 (Upper Star, 上星 shàng xīng). For facial swelling, add CV-9 (Water Divide, 水分 shuǐ fēn) and BL-22 (Triple Burner Transport, 三焦俞 sān jiāo shù). For oppression in the chest and shortness of breath, add CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng) and PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān). For cough and blood ejection, add LU-6 (Collection Hole, 孔最 kǒng zuì).
