Lesser yīn (shào yīn) headache

少阴头痛 〔少陰頭痛〕 shào yīn tóu tòng

Headache attributed to cold evil invading the lesser yīn (shào yīn). Lesser yīn (shào yīn) headache is attended by cold legs and qì counterflow, heart pain, vexation and oppression, and fine sunken pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Warm the channels and dispel cold using formulas such as Ephedra, Aconite, and Asarum Decoction (麻黄附子细辛汤 má huáng fù zǐ xì xīn tāng) and variations.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, KI, and CV. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), and KI-1 (Gushing Spring, 湧泉 yǒng quán). Needle with supplementation and add moxa. For heart pain with vexation and oppression, add HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén) and BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù).
