Intestinal wind

肠风 〔腸風〕cháng fēng

1. Bleeding hemorrhoids. See hemorrhoid.

2. Bloody stool resulting from taxation detriment to the bowels and viscera, disharmony of qì and blood, and wind-cold and heat toxin contending in the large intestine.

3. Precipitation of blood before the passage of stool; proximal bleeding. It is attributed either to external wind entering and settling or to internal wind exploiting the lower body.

Medicinal therapy: For external wind, use Sophora Fruit Pill (槐角丸 huái jiǎo wán). For internal wind, use Stomach Wind Decoction (胃风汤 wèi fēng tāng). For constitutional vacuity, use Ginseng Stomach Wind Decoction (人参胃风汤 rén shēn wèi fēng tāng). For dampness complication, with bloody stool like the juice of adzuki beans, or purplish-black, use Yáng-Upbearing Dampness-Eliminating Saposhnikovia Decoction (升阳除湿防风汤 shēng yáng chú shī fáng fēng tāng), which contains saposhnikovia (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 防风 fáng fēng), atractylodes (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 苍朮 cāng zhú), white atractylodes (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 白朮 bái zhú), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), peony (Paeoniae Radix, 芍药 sháo yào), and fresh ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 生姜 shēng jiāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, BL, LI, and SP. Select ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū), BL-57 (Mountain Support, 承山 chéng shān), GV-1 (Long Strong, 长强 cháng qiáng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with drainage.
