Heat hiccup

热呃 〔熱呃〕rè è

Hiccup attributed to stomach fire ascending counterflow or depressed phlegm-fire. Heat hiccup is a forceful hiccup accompanied by red facial complexion, vexation and thirst, dry mouth and dry tongue, yellow tongue fur, and a rapid large surging pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Harmonize the stomach and downbear fire using formulas such as Tangerine Peel and Bamboo Shavings Decoction (橘皮汤 jú pí zhú rú tāng) or Stomach-Quieting Beverage (安胃饮 ān wèi yǐn). For patterns with constipation, use Diaphragm-Cooling Powder (凉膈散 liáng gé sǎn), whereas for phlegm-fire in the stomach use Pinellia and Scutellaria Pill (半黄丸 bàn huáng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, LR, and PC. Main points: BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), CV-14 (Great Tower Gate, 巨阙 jù què), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng).
