Heart distension

心胀 〔心脹〕 xīn zhàng

A condition attributable to insufficiency of heart yáng or cold evil invading the heart, characterized by heart vexation, shortness of breath, and unquiet sleep.

Medicinal therapy: Heart distension can be treated with medicinals such as amber (Succinum, 琥珀 hǔ pò), salvia (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, 丹参 dān shēn), cinnabar (Cinnabaris, 朱砂 zhū shā), root poria (Poria cum Pini Radice, 茯神 fú shén), arborvitae seed (Platycladi Semen, 柏子仁 bǎi zǐ rén), aquilaria (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 沉香 chén xiāng), unripe tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, 青皮 qīng pí), curcuma (Curcumae Radix, 郁金 yù jīn), juncus (Junci Medulla, 灯心草 dēng xīn cǎo), and ginger skin (Zingiberis Rhizomatis Cortex, 姜皮 jiāng pí). If heart distension occurs in combination with distension disease, heart channel medicinals such as coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián) and asarum (Asari Rhizoma et Radix, 细辛 xì xīn) can be added to the formula addressing the distension.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and CV. Select BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), CV-14 (Great Tower Gate, 巨阙 jù què), CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), and GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén); needle with even supplementation and drainage and moxa.
