Harmonizing the stomach and rectifying qì

和胃理气 〔和胃理氣〕hé wèi lǐ qì

Also rectifying qì and harmonizing the stomach. A method of treatment used to address qì and phlegm-damp stagnating in the stomach duct, characterized by distension and oppression in the stomach duct, acid swallowing, vomiting of sour fluid, and belching.

Medicinal therapy: Commonly used stomach-harmonizing qì-rectifying medicinals include unripe bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 枳实 zhǐ shí), tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 陈皮 chén pí), ginger pinellia (Pinelliae Tuber cum Zingibere Praeparatum, 姜半夏 jiāng bàn xià), bamboo shavings (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia, 竹茹 zhú rú), and calcined ark shell (Arcae Concha Calcinata, 煅瓦楞子 duàn wǎ léng zǐ).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, PC, CV, and SP. Main points: ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū); needle with even supplementation and drainage. For qì stagnation, drain CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi) and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng). For phlegm evil, add CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), adding moxa. For dampness evil, add SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán) and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ) and moxa.
