Fire depression cough

In Dān-Xī’s Heart-Approach (Zhū Zhèn-Hēng 朱震亨 [Dān-Xī 丹溪], 丹溪心法 dān xī xīn fǎ) he states, Taxation cough is fire depression cough. Use chebule (Chebulae Fructus, 诃子 hē zǐ) to treat lung qì. Fire causing extreme damage and becoming depressed causes distension, fullness, and sleeplessness. Chebule’s sour bitter flavor promotes contraction and downbears fire. It is assisted by costazia bone/pumice (Costaziae Os/Pumex, 海浮石 hǎi fú shí) soaked in child’s urine (Infantis Urina, 童便 tóng biàn), cyperus (Cyperi Rhizoma, 香附子 xiāng fù zǐ), trichosanthes (Trichosanthis Fructus, 栝楼 guā lóu), indigo (Indigo Naturalis, 青黛 qīng dài), apricot kernel (Armeniacae Semen, 杏仁 xìng rén), and pinellia leaven (Pinelliae Massa Fermentata, 半夏曲 bàn xià qū); blend with fresh ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 生姜 shēng jiāng) and honey (Mel, 蜜 mì) [to make pills, which are] sucked in the mouth.

Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with drainage and prick LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) and PC-8 (Palace of Toil, 劳宫 láo gōng) to bleed.
