Exuberant heart-stomach fire
心胃火盛 〔心胃火盛〕 xīn wèi huǒ shèng
Also heart-stomach repletion fire. A disease pattern arising when, in intense heart fire, evil heat invades the stomach. The chief signs are vexation and insomnia, red face, thirst, mouth sores, scorching pain in the stomach duct, acid swallowing, and swift digestion and rapid hungering. Other signs include mania and delirious speech, red urine with inhibited voidings and stinging pain, bloody urine, immediate vomiting of ingested food, bad breath, bleeding gums, sore swollen gums, and constipation. The tongue is red with yellow fur. The pulse is slippery and rapid.
Medicinal therapy: Clear the heart and quiet the spirit; drain fire and harmonize the stomach.
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on PC, HT, and ST. Use the main points under exuberant heart fire, and add ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ); needle with drainage.
Point selection according to signs: For stomach duct pain, add CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-45 (Severe Mouth, 厉兑 lì duì), and TB-6 (Branch Ditch, 支沟 zhī gōu). For acid swallowing, add BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù) and GB-40 (Hill Ruins, 丘墟 qiū xū). For bloody urine, add CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán). For vomiting, add CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn) and PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān). For bad breath, add CV-24 (Sauce Receptacle, 承浆 chéng jiāng).
