Enriching yīn and boosting qì

滋阴益气 〔滋陰益氣〕 zī yīn yì qì

A method of supplementing both yīn and qì in the treatment of dual vacuity of qì and yīn. Commonly used yīn-enriching qì-boosting medicinals include codonopsis (Codonopsis Radix, 党参 dǎng shēn), pseudostellaria (Pseudostellariae Radix, 太子参 tài zǐ shēn), ophiopogon (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬 mài mén dōng), adenophora/glehnia (Adenophorae seu Glehniae Radix, 沙参 shā shēn), American ginseng (Panacis Quinquefolii Radix, 西洋参 xī yáng shēn), dendrobium (Dendrobii Herba, 石斛 shí hú), dried/fresh rehmannia (Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, 生地黄 shēng dì huáng), dioscorea (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 山药 shān yào), lycium berry (Lycii Fructus, 枸杞子 gǒu qǐ zǐ), cornus (Corni Fructus, 山茱萸 shān zhū yú), lycium root bark (Lycii Cortex, 地骨皮 dì gǔ pí), schisandra (Schisandrae Fructus, 五味子 wǔ wèi zǐ), and turtle shell (Trionycis Carapax, 鳖甲 biē jiǎ).

Representative formulas include Pulse-Engendering Powder (生脉散 shēng mài sǎn), Ginseng Root-Securing Pill (人参固本丸 rén shēn gù běn wán), and Ginseng and Astragalus Powder (人参黄芪散 rén shēn huáng qí sǎn).
