Enduring malaria

久疟 〔久瘧〕jiǔ nüè

Malaria that persists for a long time. Enduring malaria is attributed to dual depletion of qì and blood and spleen-stomach vacuity cold.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement qì and nourish the blood; warm yáng and disperse yīn. Use formulas such as Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng), Ginseng Provisioning-Nourishing Decoction (人参养荣汤 rén shēn yǎng róng tāng), Cinnamon Bark and Aconite Eight-Ingredient Pill (桂附八味丸 guì fù bā wèi wán), and Flowery Knotweed and Ginseng Beverage (何人饮 hé rén yǐn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV and greater yáng (tài yáng) points. Drain GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ), and SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī); supplement BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù)mx and GV-9 (Extremity of Yáng, 至阳 zhì yáng)mx.
