Flowery Knotweed and Ginseng Beverage
何人饮 〔何人飲〕hé rén yǐn

Ingredients:
- Hé shǒu wū (何首乌 Polygoni Multiflori Radix, flowery knotweed [root]) 9–30g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 6–9g
- Dǎng shēn (党参 Codonopsis Radix, codonopsis [root]) 9–15g
- Chén pí (陈皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, tangerine peel) 6g
- Jiāng (姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, ginger) (roasted) 3 slices
Action: Supplements qì and the blood
Indication: Vacuity malaria, i.e., persistent malaria with dual vacuity of qì and blood. Signs: Withered yellow complexion, attacks that are brought on by taxation fatigue. Tongue: Pale. Pulse: Large, vacuous, and forceless. Take three hours before an expected attack. In applying this formula, it is important to determine the presence of vacuity. It should not be used in the beginning stages of malaria, where the evil has not yet taken its toll on right qì.
