Efflux diarrhea

滑泄 〔滑泄〕huá xiè

Diarrhea with loss of voluntary continence; results when enduring diarrhea causes qì fall. The diarrhea is uncontrollable and may occur in the day or night without regularity. Other signs include reduced intake of food and drink, reversal cold of the limbs, sometimes swelling of the limbs, physical cold, shortness of breath, emaciation. In some cases, there are heat signs rather than than cold signs.

Patterns

Cold efflux (寒滑 hán huá) is efflux characterized by pronounced cold signs.

Medicinal therapy: Use Five Pillars Powder (八柱散 bā zhù sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, LU, CV, ST, and SP. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), CV-9 (Water Divide, 水分 shuǐ fēn), ST-21 (Beam Gate, 梁门 liáng mén), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with supplementation and large amounts of moxa. Perform moxibustion on salt or ginger at CV-8 (Spirit Gate Tower, 神阙 shén què).

Heat efflux (热滑 rè huá) is efflux characterized by pronounced heat signs.

Medicinal therapy: Use Intestine-Securing Pill (固肠丸 gù cháng wán) or Chebule Powder (诃子散 hē zǐ sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, CV, ST, and SP. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-21 (Beam Gate, 梁门 liáng mén), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū); needle with even supplementation and drainage. Moxa CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn).
