GB-25 Capital Gate

京门 〔京門〕jīng mén

Alternate names: 气府 qì fǔ, Qi House; 气俞 qì shù, Qi Transport; 肾募 shèn mù, Kidney Alarm

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower back, at the inferior border of the tip of the twelfth rib.

Classic location: From Sun and Moon (GB-24) toward the ilium, in the low back, in the region of the free ribs on either side of the spine, five fēn above, and nine and a half cùn either side of the navel. The patient should lie on his side, bend the top leg, leg, straighten the bottom leg, and raise the arm to facilitate point location. (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)

Local anatomy: The 11th intercostal artery and vein. The 11th intercostal nerve.

Action: Warms kidney cold; abducts water-dampness; downbears stomach counterflow; soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels; regulates the waterways.

Modern indications: Inhibited urination; water swelling; lumbar pain; rib-side pain; abdominal distension; diarrhea.

Classic indications: Heat effusion and aversion to cold; arched-back rigidity; pain in the hip joint; throughflux diarrhea (dòng xiè); facial swelling and scant urine; retching and vomiting; smaller abdominal pain; abdominal urgency; stoppage of the waterways.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 20‒30 min.

Point groups: Alarm point (mù xué) of the kidney.
