Modern location: An acupoint located superior to the upper lip, in the philtrum, one third of the distance from the base of the nasal septum to the red skin of the upper lip on the midline.
Classical location: In the depression close to the nostrils at the center of the trough below the nose. From
Local anatomy: The superior labial artery and vein. The buccal branch of the facial nerve and the branch of the infraorbital nerve.
Action: Arouses the spirit and opens the orifices; clears heat and extinguishes wind.
Modern indications: Mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; child fright wind; clouded spirit; deviated eyes and mouth;
Classical indications: Wind stroke with clenched jaw; loss of consciousness; trembling lips; fright wind; itchy painful red wind eye; sniveling nose;
Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2‒0.3 cùn upward oblique insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
Needle sensation: Localized distension and heaviness.
Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the governing vessel and the stomach and large intestine channels; one of the thirteen ghost points.

This point is located below the nose in the center of the philtrum. The philtrum resembles a water trough
or drain.
