A condition characterized by runny nose with clear snivel (nasal mucus), nasal congestion, and sneezing, and attributed to lung qì depletion, insecurity of defense qì, and external contraction of wind-cold. Medicinal therapy: Course wind and diffuse the lung with variations of Magnolia Flower Powder (辛夷散xīn yí sǎn).
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LU and LI points that course wind and resolve the exterior and free the nasal orifices. Select LI-20 (Welcome Fragrance, 迎香 yíng xiāng), Hall of Impression (印堂yìn táng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and Clear Nose (鼻通bí tōng); needle with drainage. For nasal congestion, add GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí) and GV-23 (Upper Star, 上星 shàng xīng). For pronounced externally contracted wind-cold, add GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān), and LU-7 (Broken Sequence, 列缺 liè quē), needling with drainage and adding moxa.
