Origin in unofficial sources: Sphenomeris chusana (L.) Copel. [= Stenoloma chusanum (L.) Ching; Adiantum chusanum L.]

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Slightly bitter*; cold*; nontoxic*.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin; disinhibits dampness; and stanches bleeding. Treats wind-heat common cold; summerheat stroke and sand (shā); diarrhea; dysentery; white turbidity; vaginal discharge; cough; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); vomiting of blood (blood ejection); bloody stool or urine; gān of the teeth and gums; swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (30–60g).

Production area: Produced south of the Yangtze and as far north as Shǎnxī (Shaanxi).
