Source: Yī Xué Fā Míng 医学发明

Ingredients

Actions: Dries dampness and clears heat; quickens the blood and dispels wind.

Indications: Impediment () due to damp-heat (with dampness more pronounced than heat) with pain and heaviness in the limbs, heaviness in the shoulders, and sometimes with heat effusion, aversion to cold, and vexation and oppression in the chest and diaphragm. Tongue fur: Yellow and slimy. Pulse: Soggy and moderate or slippery and rapid.

Method: Decoct in water.

Rationale: Cāng zhú and Bái zhú fortify the spleen and dry dampness. Kǔ shēn, Huáng qín, Zhī mǔ, and Yīn chén clear heat and dry dampness. Zhū líng and Zé xiè disinhibit water and percolate dampness. These agents work together to discharge the damp-heat from the body. Qiāng huó and Fáng fēng outthrust wind-damp from the joints. Shēng má and Gé gēn outthrust wind-damp from the flesh. Dāng guī and Zhì gān cǎo work with Bái zhú to supplement center qì. Dāng guī further supplements and quickens the blood, and works with Qiāng huó and Fáng fēng to quicken the blood and dispel wind, and again with Dǎng shēn, Cāng zhú, and Zhì gān cǎo to free the blood vessels.
