Ingredients

• Líng yáng jiǎo (羚羊角 Saigae Tataricae Cornu, antelope horn) (grated to a powder and drenched) 0.3-0.6g
• Tiān má (天麻 Gastrodiae Rhizoma, gastrodia [root]) 3–9g
• Suān zǎo rén (酸枣仁 Ziziphi Spinosi Semen, spiny jujube [kernel]) 3–9g
• Fáng fēng (防风 Saposhnikoviae Radix, saposhnikovia) 6–9g
• Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root]) 6–9g
• Guì zhī (桂枝 Cinnamomi Ramulus, cinnamon twig) 3–6g
• Fù zǐ (附子 Aconiti Radix Lateralis Praeparata, aconite [accessory root]) 3–6g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 3–6g
• Zhú lì (竹沥 Bambusae Succus, bamboo sap) 15–20 ml.
• Jiāng zhī (姜汁 Zingiberis Rhizomatis Succus, ginger juice)

Actions: Warms the spleen and transforms phlegm; calms the liver, extinguishes wind, and opens the orifices; dispels wind and frees the network vessels.

Indications: Wind stroke arising when exuberant phlegm due to spleen vacuity is stirred by wind to obstruct the orifices. Signs include hemiplegia and stiff tongue preventing speech. Tongue fur: White and slimy. Pulse: Floating and slippery.

Method: Swallow mixed with fluid.

Rationale: Fáng fēng and Qiāng huó dispel external wind, while Tiān má and Líng yáng jiǎo extinguish internal wind. Fù zǐ, Guì zhī, and Gān cǎo warm spleen yáng and transform phlegm-damp. Zhú lì and ginger juice dispel wind phlegm and open the orifices. Dà zǎo quiets the heart and spirit, and combined with Shēng jiāng juice helps to open the orifices and restore the power of speech.
