Ingredients:

• Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 9g
• Shú dì huáng (熟地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, cooked rehmannia [root]) 15g
• Gǒu qǐ zǐ (枸杞子 Lycii Fructus, lycium [berry]) 9g
• Bái sháo (白芍 Paeoniae Radix Alba, white peony [root]) 9g
• Shān yào (山药 Dioscoreae Rhizoma, dioscorea [root]) 12g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) (mix-fried) 1.5g

Action: Supplements provisioning blood.

Indication: Delayed menstruation due to blood vacuity characterized by pale scant flow, empty abdominal pain, withered-yellow facial complexion, dizzy head, and heart palpitation. Tongue: Pale with thin tongue fur. Pulse: Fine and vacuous.

Rationale: This formula treats delayed menstruation from enduring illness or loss of blood that leads to depletion of the blood prevented the sea of blood from being filled at the right time. The blood vacuity is directly reflected in delayed menstruation with scant pale flow, and withered-yellow facial complexion. The lack of nourishment to the uterine vessels is reflected in abdominal pain. Dizziness is explained by blood vacuity and upward bearing liver yáng. Vacuous blood fails to nourish the heart and is therefore reflected in heart palpitation and in a pale tongue, and also fails to fill the vessels and is therefore reflected in a fine vacuous pulse. Shú dì huáng and Gǒu qǐ zǐ enrich the kidney and boost yīn. Shān yào and Zhì gān cǎo boost the kidney and supplement the spleen Dāng guī and Bái sháo nourish the blood and harmonize provisioning.
