Alternate Chinese names: Jiàn pí hé wèi tāng (健脾和胃汤 Spleen-Fortifying Stomach-Harmonizing Decoction)

Ingredients

Actions: Fortifies the spleen and harmonizes the stomach; rectifies qì and disinhibits the center.

Indications: Spleen-stomach vacuity with damp obstruction and qì stagnation with signs such as belching, oppression in the chest, glomus in the stomach duct, distension after eating, no thought of food and drink, vomiting and diarrhea, a thick slimy tongue fur, and a weak soggy pulse. This formula also treats spleen vacuity with signs such as abdominal distension, swelling of the eyes, face, and extremities. In modern clinical practice, it is often used to treat ulcers, chronic diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal disorders.

Method: Decoct with water.

Notes: This is Liù jūn zǐ tāng (六君子汤 Six Gentlemen Decoction) with the addition of Mù xiāng, or originally Xiāng fù, and Shā rén.
