Rationale: Chē qián zǐ and Tōng cǎo clear lung heat and disinhibit the water ways. Small amounts of Dēng xīn cǎo and Hǔ pò clear heart fire and help to disinhibit water, addressing effulgent heart fire restraining the lung. Fú líng, Zhū líng, and Zé xiè are bland sweet dampness-percolating agents. Biǎn xù, Mù tōng, and Qú mài are cold bitter heat-clearing agents that disinhibit urine and free strangury. The main feature of this formula is that it clears the lung and moves water at the same time, thus addressing both the root and tip, with emphasis on the tip.
