Ingredients

• Lù jiǎo jiāo (鹿角胶 Cervi Cornus Gelatinum, deer antler glue) 15–20g
• Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
• Shēng jiāng (生姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, fresh ginger) 3 slices

Actions: Supplements kidney yáng; boosts essence-blood.

Indications: Vacuity taxation emaciation, impotence, premature ejaculation, enuresis, lumbar pain, vacuity cold uterine cold, infertility, flooding and spotting, and vaginal discharge.

Method: Boil the rice, and then add the deer antler glue and fresh ginger and boil to a thin gruel.

Warnings: This gruel is unsuitable for patients showing signs of yīn vacuity with effulgent fire, dry mouth and dry tongue, yellow urine, constipation. Also contraindicated in common cold and influenza with heat effusion.

Rationale: Lù jiǎo jiāo is sweet and slightly salty, warm, and nontoxic. It enters the liver and kidney channels. It is used to treat kidney vacuity and general weakness, aching lumbus, impotence, seminal efflux, uterine cold menstrual pain, infertility, and vaginal discharge. Ginger enhances the flavor and warming effect.
